I wrote the following poem on new year’s eve as people often use the new year’s eve to make resolutions, time to change over a new leaf, time to promise yourself you’ll do better at something.
The thing is we cannot change ourselves, even as Christians, we can promise ourselves or God that we will do better, better Bible reading, better prayer life, better serving.
The only way we can change is by knowing Jesus, by possessing a new life in Christ. So the NYE poem was for those on my Facebook to come to Christ and the scriptures followed:
And so a new year
Usually brings cheer
As we hope for a good one to come
But will it be so
Unless the Saviour you know
And the hope of an eternal home
For each passing day
We are fading away
Whether virus we have or no
But with Christ in your heart
When you eventually depart
To our God in heaven you will go
So do not delay
Call on His name today
The name that will save you from your sin
And start the new year
Full of grace and good cheer
And a new life of walking with Him
Romans 10:13
13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
John 10:10b Jesus said:
“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
Colossians 2:6-7
6 Since you have accepted Christ Jesus as Lord, live in union with him. 7 Keep your roots deep in him, build your lives on him, and become stronger in your faith, as you were taught. And be filled with thanksgiving.
Then the NYD poem was for believers to keep praying for loved ones and all those who are lost, as this is our calling in our new life, this is why Christ died. And how my heart yearns for the lost, our loved ones, I know the Lord knows what He is doing and maybe He has to take those we love places we'd rather they didn't go, but God is sovereign and merciful, and while today is still a day of grace
then I shall weep before my God for those who are still far off, for only Jesus can save them from their sin:
We look to the one
Who gave us His Son
So our needs and desires could be met
In saving from sin
So we can begin
Our prayers upon Him to set
For those still without
Give a merciful shout
And seek forgiveness from Jesus our King
'Oh Lord save the lost
Teach us the measureless cost'
As our loved ones to you we bring
And then on that day
As our loved ones will say
"All blessing and honour and glory,
Belongs to the one
Who gave us His Son"
As we share our salvation story
Hebrews 7:25
Therefore he (Jesus) is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
Lord bless you this day as you depend on Him alone for all things.
