Fat Babies

FAT BABIES

Some of us are premature

We are oh so eager

To be out in the world

That we try to force our own way

Thinking this will make us grow

Only to find that we are

Weak, and not fully formed

Zealous maybe

But immature still

Some of us are fat babies

We are oh so eager

To feed upon His Word

We gorge ourselves

On the delights of His truth

Thinking this will make us grow

Only to find we have become

Smug and self-satisfied

In our knowledge

Well-fed. maybe

But babies still

Some of us are weary toddlers

We are oh so eager

To serve our Saviour

We race around

Endlessly busn for Him

Thinking this will make us grow

Only to find we have become

Damaged by deeds we are

Not ready for

Exercised, maybe

But toddlers still

Some of us are deprived children

We are oh so eager

To subdue our sin

We deny ourselves

Even innocent joys

Thinking this will make us grow

Only to find we have become

Bitter and cynical

In our austerity

Disciplined, maybe

But children still

All of us should be growing

And oh so eager

To be healthy and strong

Running the race

But in step with the Spirit

Hungry for Your Word

But working it out in our lives

Zealous to serve

But guided by Your knowledge

Thirsty for righteousness

But overflowing with joy

Your children always

But maturing day by day.

Much love, Claire
